Orpherys

Defined as a ‘band of ornament or decoration’, orpherys are used in a wide variety of sizes, materials and locations to embellish the vestments and other Liturgical Art ‘opportunities’ in the Church.

The theme of these rich green Orpherys and their matching Vestments and Paraments was inspired by the changing of the seasons. The top of the orhperys reveals three bare trees, reminiscent of the Resurrection. Just below are scattered white blossoms, blending in with the leaves of the coming summer. Ripe apples adorn the middle of the year and leave just enough space to see the beginning of the colorful autumn leaves that follow, floating down onto deep green velvet as they return to the ground. The stole is a miniature of the orphery design while the Chasuble has the ‘Seasons’ flowing around the edges with one complete cycle visible from the front or the back. The tip of the bare trees is seen just over the shoulder, a portent of what is to come. Stitched in fabrics of several kinds, lined in green satin.  2004

These orpherys are 16” wide and

20’ high, certainly a large example!
